Ideas From the Practice

Results are a product of action. But if you're over-concerned about the outcome, you'll never take the action in the first place.

You are paying for a gym membership. You are not going. Your body still feels tight, your stress is still high, and you keep reading about hot yoga but cannot decide if the hype is real.

One way a spontaneous and genuine laugh occurs when an absurd idea meets an element of truth. The dramatic, quick, and subtle shift from an absurdity to a spice of truth peels open the mind, arouses the senses and generates a release in the form of laughter. The absurd idea takes our mind somewhere high up in space then some truth of it slams it back down. That impact is felt within us and we laugh. Now if the joke cannot relate or capture your imagination, which exists within an element of space where only creativity is possible, then the joke teller will not be able to bring your mind up and away so therefore bringing it back down has no impact. So this could be the joke teller’s inability to lift you up. This could also be the receivers inability to lighten up. What I am interested in, is the mind’s ability to lighten up, so that it can direct its light into the dark, the unknown. If your mind is scared of the dark, it cannot use its own light therefore it will not adventure into unknown spaces. Your mind will lack the brilliance it was designed for. The mind will stay down where it feels safe and therefore never allow space for the joke teller to lead you into what you think is danger, but might actually be gold. You remain down and close to the ground. Psychologically your ground of being exists within your knowledge. So all that you know or can control, so you stay close to the controllable. Knowledge is a form of matter. Space is a form of nothing. Think of the earth and the planets. We can study the planet’s material and make sense of it. It is something. Space is nothing. We only know space because of the matter that exists within, including ourselves. Now let’s zoom in to how matter and space cooperate. Any object that is concentrated with matter, cannot absorb. Think of a brick’s ability to absorb water vs a sponge. The sponge has space, holes, it’s porous, it has openings so it can absorb liquid, while also taking on the same shape as a brick. The brick is hard and there are no openings or space so nothing can get in. So if your mind is filled with knowledge, your brain may become hard and closed. No new sources can penetrate your mind. Its filled with knowledge. Essentially this makes it impossible to learn. You’ve created a barrier around your mind through your thinking which is part of your knowledge. A layer of protections. It’s like having a security guard and that guard keeps you secure. Never leaving your house also keeps you secure from assholes and thieves. But adventure only exists outside your house, or to say outside of what you know. That is the definition of adventure, to move into unknown territory. So to adventure is to move into the unknown. Most people think of this in terms of external factors, such as moving into a new job, a new relationship, a first date and of course this is not wrong. But I want to get into something closer, more intimate, more accessible and transmutable. Within one’s mind and body. Within one’s mind exists what? Your thoughts or what you routinely think about. That has become a form of home to you. It is so familiar. Have you ever left it? Perhaps blindly or without knowing. Of course you have. Some people much more than others. Some only know their home. I don’t become rich by staying home. In fact I become poor. I only survive on what I have, and this obsession with my existing possessions becomes a form of comfort to me, which eventually makes me poor. I’ve stayed close to what I know. To be rich and diverse in thought, requires the humility to be poor in thought. So to leave my possession behind gives me space to discover. What I discover is what makes me rich. If I am not following the joke teller, because I stayed in the comfort of my home, then I miss the ride up and down. It’s through that process of high and low, rich and poor, that a connection or discovery is realized. The humility to allow change of mind also allows for change of emotions. And that quick stretch from one end to the other end is what makes a person internally diverse. You increase your range, by going beyond your current range. If I only stay within the range of my thinking, how can I ever go beyond my thinking? Your brain will become poor, if you cannot give up your possessions. You will not experience the diversity of your magnificent and unusual mind.

The position you hold, the practice you’ve built, the family counting on you; none of it shields you from substance misuse. For many professionals in Ohio, that realization arrives quietly, long after the pattern has taken hold. This guide is written for those who are ready to understand their options with clarity and without judgment.

You’ve tried the gym. You’ve logged miles on the pavement. Maybe you’ve even rolled out a yoga mat a few times. But you’re still searching for that workout that actually sticks.

Its estimated that less than 10% of Americans follow through on their resolutions.

Your mind won’t stop racing. Work stress bleeds into evening hours. Anxiety shows up uninvited at 3 AM. You’ve tried meditation apps, therapy, maybe medication. Now someone mentions hot yoga for mental health.

Forget what you’ve learned. Our knowledge often prevents us from growing authentically. Wisdom is one’s ability to be free from their knowledge and be able to use knowledge as a tool for understanding, rather than a defense mechanism. When my attention, which is energy, is closed to my knowledge I’ve lost freedom; therefore I’ve lost energy. My mind favors my knowledge and becomes comfortable in the known thought. Knowledge is the ground of my understanding. Space is the opportunity for new understanding. The ground gives us relevance. Space gives us creation. The more attached I become to my knowledge the more I shrink in my understanding. The duller I become. An imbalance begins to shape in the capacity of my mind. My mind becomes tired and bored or stressed and anxious when it’s personally challenged. I become attached to the ground, I don’t want to lift off the ground. The child who keeps getting off the ground from crawling to walking stops getting off the ground. A child has little knowledge, therefore their mind tends to be wide open for understanding despite little experience to rely on. Although the child can be easily deceived because of their lack of knowledge, this is not viewed as a threat in the child’s mind. So how do you balance knowledge with no knowledge? Humility is the courage to forgo my knowledge. Wisdom appears through the separation. The separation or space between known and unknown. When I can observe from that space between the known and the unknown, I can start to discover connections in subtle detail. Wisdom isn’t forced or memorized. Most people have a lot of knowledge, but little wisdom because we are so busy filling our minds with knowledge. We must forget preconceived ideas and be open to seeing in a new way. There’s a term used in Zen Buddhism called a ‘beginners mind’. This is what we mean to be a beginner. “In a beginner’s mind the possibilities are endless, in an expert’s few. This is a skill we can improve with practice. Often people rely on external objects, their relationship with their spouse, their career, maybe a hobby or their sport to learn and grow. The practice of spirituality is reliance on no – thing. Even if you call it “God” that is still not an object. God is indescribable. The self, the ego, is something always relating to something else. Spirituality is nothing. If learning is science, unlearning is religion. Unlearning is like taking off your clothes, in a psychological sense. Your mind is stripped of all ideas, images and words and you are acting in accordance with the world as it is. This exposes our soul-an area where most of us are unfamiliar, and quite frankly uncomfortable. But it is impossible and irrelevant to strictly operate from the soul. Our ego gives us some superficial relevance, which should be used to complement our soul. However in many cases it dominates or suffocates our soul. For example, our names, our job titles, our race, our culture, our gender, our community, our home; all that exists in the material world which in a superficial and obvious sense is more relatable. It’s safer and easier to chit chat about. Besides, you can’t actually talk about your soul. If you did you’d just become that phony, far-off, disconnected hippie chick / dude. People that are in love, have no need to talk about their love. Yet you can feel it emanate from them. Others talk about love all the time, but you don’t feel it from them. What is the soul? Can we identify the soul? You can use words to describe the soul, but that becomes external and material once again.

You will notice a repetitive theme throughout this book. This is no secret although it might be to some. If I gave you the answer you would say I “got it” then move on then forget again and again. There is nothing to “get” from this book. If anything it is to “forget”. So if you are chasing an answer and hoping to get something from it you are reading the wrong book. If you wanna study the history of yoga, then read books on yoga history. I’m less interested in the history of yoga and I’m more interested in the embodiment of yoga. Through embodiment it becomes practical and relative to anything I involve myself in. It becomes fundamental in me, not superficial. I don’t have to talk about it, I am it. (*unless of course you are teaching it, yet it still can become superficial and hypocritical if not embodied in teaching.) By studying history it fills my mind with jargon. Then I end up repeating jargon that I have little understanding of. I become a clone of something else to give me the illusion of smart. I am not diminishing history, I believe it’s very important and a great road map. But I want to emphasize what I believe lacks emphasis. Freedom from thought offers capacity to become independent thinkers and actors. Freedom from thought is an act of faith. I will get cheap here and use a quote from Einstein to reiterate my point. “I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me. We think of silence as a passive pursuit. I am not indicating to take a nap. Or daydreaming, which is a form of thinking or imagining. Inevitably your mind will drift into the dream state when it has “nothing” to be with. But can our minds get to utter stillness or silence? The dream state or thinking state is a superficial form of silence. You can go sit in a quiet room by yourself and have superficial silence. And you can in a room full of loud people and have fundamental silence. The former is a change in your external environment. The ladder is a change in your internal environment. I’m interested in what is totally 100% in my control. Everything else is nonsense. To develop the capacity for silence fundamentally and internally gives me complete control of no matter where I am or who I am with. All this requires is my forgiveness of my thoughts, ideas, images, rational, etc… I am aware that I have my ego, which consists of all that, yet I am totally comfortable without it. I can be completely with what is. I have developed the capacity to surrender and in that I’ve created mental space. Something new, fresh, and spontaneous may develop from this space. People panic because they are scared of death. Death to their ego. So they never live freely.

This book’s context exists on a baseless ground. This book’s context stands for nothing. When I stand for nothing I can be ready for anything. When I stand for nothing it puts the onus on me to figure it out. Truth becomes the grounds on which I stand. The truth I am talking about is not fixed or doesn’t ever arrive at a point. A mind interested in truth has no deep-seated belief other than truth itself. This is a mind that can exist beyond the self – because the self is fixed. The self aka ego is our brain’s information storage that gets us through life. But if it’s all we are operating from then we will never arrive anywhere new. We will just constantly repeat our past. The reason is because we are only operating from the source of our information storage, which is all from the past. A mind that can move beyond itself (aka past, aka memory) is a mind that ceases control, which comes in the form of thought, and in that ceasing allows for freedom from thought and into a new realm – awareness of what is. This is a mind existing in its natural state. Any other mind is fixed on conditions. And those conditions were created by your past, your upbring, your schools, teachers, books, parents, friends, society, etc. The structures that you’ve built in your mind, including language, are all a form of control and necessary for survival and guidance into the future. But if you only live in this part of the mind you will always feel like you are trying to survive. This is why we become stressed. A mind unfixed to the condition is free. To be free you have to let go of what you’re holding onto. Otherwise you only know what you hold and what you hold will eventually become bitter, rotten, and develop a depression. Now let me make a distinction between two different conceptual versions of truth. The truth I have been referring to we will call, “ultimate truth”. The truth more easily described and more commonly referred to in conversation is relative, definable and based on conditions and theory and often tied in with fact. A defined truth could be a tree for example. We would all look at a tree and agree it’s called a tree. We’ve established pre-existing conditions as a culture, giving certain objects names based on certain known characteristics. So all those facts have been predetermined for us to agree on some truth. Move closer into your family or friend groups and you might all agree with the fact that your buddy Roger loves to drink Miller Lite on a Friday night. All of this in varying degrees and instances creates our societal and familial conditioning, which are a set of “truths” we’ve agreed on. This type of conditioning is absolutely necessary but also becomes dangerous, because it robs us of the ability to think freely. The important fact I want to highlight is one’s ability to distinguish the difference. Not just right now as you’re reading this, but in practicality. Watch yourself as you take action in life. The action can be in conversation with a stranger or a lover. Notice in conversation if you make quick judgments. These are conditioned thought patterns. When you start to notice this condition pattern, you have just made the unconscious conscious. This newfound awareness will offer great vitality and in that vitality your judgment may improve. And when your judgment improves your life path improves. You have expanded your insight of truth. Now this happens once and we might become prideful inside. And then forget the next time, and then we are back to our old ways, our conditioned pattern. To re – mind or re – turn to our natural state is to come back to what’s original. Your original or child-like mind is open and without many conditions. This is a mind that hasn’t arrived on a point. And therefore has a great capacity to receive and learn easily.

Walking into your first heated yoga class feels like stepping into a sauna with a side of existential dread. The temperature hits you, everyone else looks annoyingly calm, and you’re already questioning your life choices.

When your philosophy is led by Truth, kindness is the natural result. When your philosophy is led by kindness, your kindness may become insincere. All spiritual teachings are guided by Truth. However the idea of truth can become dangerous. And the danger is in one’s attachment to the idea.

If you wanna eliminate fear, which is how hate evolves, you must confront your own fears. You cannot understand something without facing it directly, honestly and openly.

An insecure person doesn’t want you to grow up. They want you to stay down. That’s because this makes them feel secure. The greatest threat to love – which is neither secure, nor insecure – is comparison. Love is free of all comparisons. Comparison is a form of measurement. When you have something or someone to measure ourselves against we feel relevant. Why do we do this? Because we are constantly comparing based on something. We compare ourselves to our parents, to our friends, to our celebrities, to our co-workers. This separates us from that which we are viewing. There’s “me” then there is “them”. There’s distance between me and the object. How is this object relative to that object? This gives us a sense of relativity, which offers us an interpretation or comprehension. meaning. Meaning makes us feel fulfilled. This is a necessity to get along in life. But how often do we subjectify our objective reality? Our feelings, emotions, opinions cloud our perception towards truth. This is a place many people become numb to. This area of subjectivity is covered by the storm of themselves. Reality becomes distorted. They’ve conflated a physical reality with their psychological reality. In how many situations do we carry stories all day long in our heads that stress our nervous system and entire being. How often do we conflate our opinions/ideas/beliefs with our feelings? We become numb or anxious to our own stories and so does our body leaving our bodies and minds in a state of dis-ease.

Power yoga is known for its heat, energy, and challenge — the kind of practice that asks you to meet your edge again and again. Yet within that intensity lies one of yoga’s deepest lessons: how to stay cool, confident, and calm no matter what’s happening around (or within) you.

In a world that never stops moving, our bodies and minds are often running on empty. Between deadlines, screens, and constant demands, we forget to pause — to breathe, to move intentionally, to feel. Heated power yoga offers a space where movement meets mindfulness, where challenge becomes therapy, and where the heat itself becomes a teacher.

At some point, every yoga student comes to the question: Do I step into the fire of a hot room, or settle into the cool steadiness of a regular practice?

Getting ready for your first hot yoga session or looking to upgrade your gear? What to wear to hot yoga can make or break your practice experience. This guide covers key clothing choices and essential items to bring for a cool, confident practice that lets you focus on your flow instead of your discomfort.
My friend was telling me about her recent medical issue. She decided to meet with a physician to help resolve this issue. The physician asked no questions of her and simply said it’s a typical medical issue and wrote her a prescription. He did not try and understand her diet or potential gut issues, stress issues, environmental issues, or any external factors that could be contributing to this imbalance. My friend left this appointment feeling empty and incomplete. The pill he prescribed may have temporarily solved the external reaction her body was experiencing. But would it solve the underlying issue?

This documentary discusses the implications of the two sides of the brain and the role they play. The left and right side. Western society has become left brain dominant, which our schools and especially universities have helped contribute to. I refer to this as the script. Or the teleprompter. Or the tape recorder. The image or word making machine in your head. People that tend to be so attached to the word or language or correctness are less able to read body language, energy etc, because they’re caught up on the literal. They can’t see beyond the literal or the explicit. The right side dominant brain I bet would tend to be more atheist and the left side brain would be more open to higher power (God or Universe or whatever name). This is what BE BAD training is all about. A big realization I had in Thailand for the yoga teacher training with Baptiste, was all these different walks of life, doctors, nurses, engineers, etc would open up about some issue they were going through. The light bulb went off for me because so many people (including myself) waste so much time, thinking about themselves (which is left brain working) rather than taking action (or playing – right side brain working). Kids are more in the right side of the brain, feeling, movement, sensing, emotions (energy in motion) connecting etc. I talk about this all the time in yoga class, without dividing the brain up. I look at it from the lens of thought or “no thought”. That still doesn’t completely land, because the left brain will interfere and argue or question that statement, rightfully so, since that’s its job!

Brooksource, a staffing corporation, hosted a private heated yoga session with REWILD as a team-building experience. For many attendees, it was their first time trying yoga—and they loved it.
Universal consciousness then the consciousness that lives through each of our memories. Zen Buddhism refers to this as big mind and small mind. It’s all one – or what buddhism refers to as non-duality (so not two, but one). Our memory which is our past prevents most of us, most of the time from expanding consciousness. Our memory is what divides us from pure consciousness. Our memory is what creates duality. Drug addictions are the result trying to escape memory. Your consciousness and my consciousness is the same. Our memories are different. Your memory influences your consciousness — because it can direct you to it or away from it. If you’re directed to it, your memory for that moment will disappear. If your directed away from it, you’re in your memory. Most people live in memory most the time. Every day feels the same to them. They are not fully conscious. Your thoughts are illusions and so is memory of your consciousness. So what your consciousness remembers is an illusion. Those illusions come from your memory which establishes your self image. That’s why physical death is an illusion. Your image of yourself is not real, it’s built up. But when your self image / memory / illusion cease, then there’s pure consciousness. This is heaven, God, love and all those things. This concepts only have real value only if they can be applied religiously.
Perception is the lens that clouds reality. The closer to reality you get the clearer your perception. The less you become distracted by opinions the more hungry you get for truth.
I watched “A Complete Unknown” this weekend. There’s a scene that comes after Bob Dylan completed a new album cover(Like a Rolling Stone) and is getting ready to play at his second Folk Festival in two years. The management does not want him to play his new music with his electric guitar (not folk enough, opposed to acoustic). Dylan asks what defines Folk. In the movie renown Folk/Country singer Johnny Cash also at folk festival encourages him to “get mud on the carpet”. In other words, don’t be afraid to make mess. Dylan plays his new album including what would eventually be an all time great hit which would catapult Dylan into new stratosphere in terms of pop culture success, ‘Like a Rolling Stone’. The crowd is booing and his management team are going nuts. Dylan stays poised despite the rejection all around him, continuing to sing his heart out. What is right and what is wrong here can be easily argued in either direction. Beyond the surface of the “definable” or “known” is the artists quest to “find out” — “so to explore the unknown” to discover what’s in his heart will resonate with others. The artist is more interested in testing boundaries, then remaining in the constructs defined by society. The construct becomes a machine. Machines are predictable, repetitive and redundant. The artist feels most alive in the revolt against the machine, to find out what is really true. The artist will test “his truth” meaning what he believes to be true with the “truth” – meaning the actual truth. There’s no other way to find out, other than through action, such as in Dylan’s case his new album in front of a crowd that expects the same old album. The artist wants to find out if what he believes in his heart will resonate with others. There’s a distance between what’s in his heart, which defines his individuality – and how it lands with others. IF it doesn’t land the artist will face defeat from loss of connection. IF it lands its the greatest drug ever experienced. In that distance between defeat and victory is a great mystery. The greater the heart, the more love and exhilaration in the mystery. The lesser the heart, the more fear and paralysis. Where many avoid the “void”, the great artist on the other hand understands its through and in the void that he can discover untapped parts of himself. A great heart will give courage to explore the void. Life is about experience all of yourself (not just parts), which is where authenticity and originality flower. A machine is a resemblance of the past and the past offers security and a familiar place. But nothing original can flower. The artist attains liberation from the past, by moving into the unknown.
I did this little exercise in the Denver airport on the way home from a ski trip. I was walking through the concourse to get to my gate, in a sea of other people doing mostly the same. I would keep my eyes looking ahead and try and allow myself to notice everything. So instead of my usual walking and looking at the strange people, pretty girls, seeing nice clothes, ugly clothes, thinking about my trip, etc. which is my usual thought running its course. I restrained from that usual thinking, the best I could. Obviously it came up. When it did, I would recognize it then let go of it. So I kept coming back to just keeping my eyes ahead and seeing all the movements out of all areas of my eyes without tying a story aka a new thought pattern to what I was seeing. My awareness would expand and I started to see a bigger picture like a wave of people and a synchronous movement of large groups. I started move with them as a needed with effortlessness, like a well trained swimmer. I got little highs from the intoxication of uncertainty – since I was so tuned in to the constant subtle change. It was a practice of no effort or no thought or no judgment, yet high awareness. An exercise of surrendering to thought yet staying aware of what was ahead and the constant change of it. It was really beautiful for me. You can practice this on a walk drive or I suppose anywhere. When the mind’s thought movement is limited, this opens the mind to witness real life and the constant and subtle change of it around us and inside us .So my bodily sensations were heightened. It was as if I was on drugs. Thought typically blocks or prevents new sources. Thought is familiar to us. No thought is unfamiliar. See people will panic when they do a mediation or get bored, because they are so connected to thought. When their thought pattern is interrupted they become confused. And if they don’t let go of thought pattern, then they just get bored. Sports and the arts (and yoga – especially REWILD) I believe open this part of mind, without us really knowing it or putting it to words like I am.

A good race car driver isn’t daydreaming or rationalizing about their past race – which is all in the form of permeance. They instead have to be so aware of the constant change in order to make the next best move. Life is always changing. How often do our minds stay the same? And is it our thoughts keeping our mind the same? The intoxicating effect of sport, like race car driving is you’re alert and present to what is. The danger and the competition wakes you up to what is. You’re not thinking about a million different solutions, instead you are responding from awareness. You’ve established a foundation of logic to offer you that freedom. Allowing for access to this part of the mind, will light up your mind. This isn’t permanent, nothing living is. Mediation is breaking free from the permanence the mind creates, lighting it up! A mind thinking and imagining is a mind that is not one with existence or reality in an exacting sense. It’s a memory existing in reality and projection of a future reality. This is what separates us from the animals. This is the greatest living asset and greatest liability on planet earth. The race car driver is one with their car, the track, the other cars, the steering wheel, the tires on the road, etc. The danger in mediation is you lose your attachment which creates a sense of permanence. Without that permanence you might feel like someone stripped you naked in the middle of giving a public talk. Like the race car driver this could feel exhilarating or devastating. Obviously I’m not suggesting stripping naked in public, but I am attempting to drive home the point of exposing oneself. Why would you hold anything back? If you’re lucky you will live another 60- 70 years, why waste any time not living. A thinking mind is a mind in insulation. It is insulated from its environment, a form of protection to maintain its permanency. Permanence implies unchanging. If the mind is fixed on an end result it has stopped expanding its search. If the end was the only motivation for the race car driving she would miss all the moments in between, suffocating her of the experience and likely making her a terrible race car driver. A mind seeking the end remains in isolation. The words love and freedom are closely related. When there’s freedom, there’s space. So space from what? Space from the permanency the mind creates? Can we exist in space without attachment to ideas and alive with the constant change that our life and life itself brings? Love is in the seeking, the work, the process. Death is at the end. How often do our minds become dead because of attachment to thought? A yoga teacher does yoga teacher training just to become a glorified “yoga teacher”. A doctor gets a degree just to become a glorified “doctor”. Yoga studio owner, just opened a yoga studio to be a “business owner”. When you chase something with an attachment to getting something from it, you lose capacity for truth and love. People that love what they do, don’t need anything from it. It’s the doing that they love. Not the “getting”. Because love is in the doing.
The poses are the teachings we are the disciple. The teachings are only relative to the disciple. The pose is only relative to us. If the disciple does not challenge the teachings, how can it understand what is being taught? It will accept a fixed idea based on a non-fixed reality. The poses / teachings are fixed ideas that offer elements of truth. That truth is relative, to that moment. A living human is an organism that is forever changing, so a non-fixed reality. Until death. Then the memory of the human becomes a fixed idea for others to remember or forget. Great teachings live forever, humans do not. When a person becomes fixed on the idea of themselves, they’ve limited their living organism. They’re living dead. They’re relationship to self has blocked them. Their potential becomes unrealized. They have constructed a reality of themselves from their memory. A person’s self image is built over time and experiences to create a constructed reality. So how much time and energy does a person spend to protect that self image? It’s easy to see the reason for goal setting. The goal gives us direction to work towards some unrealized potential, in the process creating a habit of discipline. A person that has little love for something, might have to force the goal upon themselves. A person that has love towards something, may not need no goal. They could care less about the outcome, and care more about the work. Because when they are at work, they are in love. If I am writing these words, so that the reader will have an orgasm, then I am writing from my idea of what I think the reader wants to read. I am writing to get something. But I am not writing from something. Writing to get something will always leave me unfulfilled and out of love. Writing from something will expose me, which might feel scary at first. But it’s in that process of exposing myself that I am learning who I really am and how I relate to the world. This is true art. Everyone is an artist, because we all have the capacity to create. But if our only concern is what we get from our work, we lose our capacity to create, the joy of figuring stuff out is lost and we become cogs in the system. We just chase results, which creates a society of imitations and copy cats. We become clones to one another. In creation is the greatest joy. Having a child is a form of creation. Raising that child is a form of creation. What exposes a person more than raising a child? Look what you created, as they’ve grown up! You’ve either created a beautiful loving contributing member of society, or a monster collecting welfare. But they were your responsibility until at least the age of 18. If you love that work of raising a child you will likely raise a lovely child. If you are afraid to be exposed to your own weaknesses, you will find clever ways to hide and avoid those weaknesses. You will become fearful, nervous, anxious. You will hate the work of raising a child and likely raise a terrible child. Surrender is an act of exposure, and to surrender makes you feel more uncertain, so you don’t do that. So you impose only control. Control comes from a fixed mindset. Surrender comes from an open mindset. Control is to hold on. Surrender is to let go. Control offers boundaries, so security. Surrender offers nothing, so insecurity. We set boundaries for ourselves to limit distractions so we can maximize a skill and realize a new experience. The discipline builds out a groove to take us somewhere new. So for ourselves and for that child we want to create boundaries to the degree for us to learn, but not be trapped or controlled. The purpose of structure, just like in the yoga pose, is to offer a guide for us to learn, to figure out and understand how our body and mind cooperates. But if the child or ourselves remains stagnant within the boundaries / yoga pose then you are creating the habit of imitation. You see a limit and you conform. Those that rise to the top, see beyond the limits. Their awareness is expansive, where others stop at limits, they get curious about what’s beyond.

Material world give us security. Everything we can identify. Eg., our names, our sex, our views, our car, our partner, etc. We know we need this so it’s easy answers. But also has limits.
To speak from the heart, is where our authenticity exists. To speak from the head is where our memory exists.

Ohio University’s football team defensive backs joined us for a private power yoga flow. The session left their minds clear and their bodies loose, energized, and ready to perform. A one-of-a-kind experience they won’t forget
